Aja West / The Mackrosoft
Laptop conductor Aja West (pronounced “Asia,” as in the Steely Dan album) has been making and syncing music for a decade—his first sync was on MTV’s The Real World. Taking after the great jazz producers and arrangers—from Creed Taylor to Quincy Jones—Aja, with his collection of analog keyboards, has mastered a wide range of genres, from jazz-funk to synth-pop. Working with luminaries such as trombonist Fred Wesley (James Brown), Headhunters rhythm section Mike Clark and Paul Jackson, and keyboard wizard Money Mark (Beastie Boys), Aja has amassed over a hundred funky tracks, mostly instrumental. With fourteen albums in his catalog, this multi-instrumentalist is a virtual music library. When shows are looking for the funk, they turn to Aja West, as evidenced by syncs on A&E’s Stevie Wonder Biography and Chef Emeril Lagasse’s show.
