Phillips revitalizes the "Beatlesque" category with substantial songwriting and a woman's voice, which turns the whole sound upside down. The Beatles hardly exhausted the possibilities of their late-'60s sound, and Phillips has the hooks and aphorisms to give that sound a second lease on life.
Sam Phillips' second effort for Virgin Records pulled out all the stops by inviting Elvis Costello and Van Dyke Parks to participate. Tracks like "Lying", "Go Down", "Private Storm", and "Raised On Promises" and others are featured on this critically acclaimed disc.
