Larry Appelbaum, Library of Congress jazz curator and host of WPFW’s “Sound of Surprise” will host a special rarely seen free screening of The !!!! Beat, 7p – 9p September 28th – Washington DC. The !!!! Beat was a pioneering blues, soul and R&B television show broadcast from Dallas starting in January 1966, and ran for 26 episodes. Friday evening’s episode will feature stellar performances by Bobby Hebb, Otis Redding, Percy Sledge, Sam & Dave, Willie Mitchell and many others.
