London’s Donmar Warehouse produces the first major revival of Cy Coleman, David Zippel, and Larry Gelbart’s 1990 Broadway musical City of Angels. Performances begin December 5th and run through February 7th 2015.
City of Angels opened on Broadway in 1989 and ran through 1992, directed by Michael Blakemore. It took home six Tony Awards in 1990 (including Best Musical, Best Book, & Best Score) and the 1994 Olivier Award for Best Musical for it’s West End production in 1993. Set to an original jazz score, the show is a musical homage to the world of film noir and Hollywood in the 1940′s and weaves two plots: one set in the present about a writer trying to turn his crime detective novel into a screenplay, and one within the fictional film.
The revival will be directed by Donmar Warehouse artistic director Josie Rourke with a star studded cast including Rosalie Craig, Hadley Fraser, Samantha Barks, and Katherine Kelly. Not to be missed!
