This week marks the two year anniversary of the release of the deluxe expanded edition of Tift Merritt’s beautiful & affecting album, Traveling Alone. Called “her best album yet” by The Wall Street Journal & The New York Times, the special expanded set comes packaged with an illustrated hardbound lyric book with art commissioned by Diana Sudyka. Available in CD and Vinyl box sets, the bonus album Traveling Companion features 10 unreleased acoustic tracks, including Merritt originals and two covers from Joni Mitchell and Tom Waits. It’s an astounding collection, we highly recommend picking it up!

You can catch Tift in concert this week on September 17 at Mountain Stage (Grand Marais, MN) and September 19 – Americana Music Festival w/Loretta Lynn, Steve Earle, & Gillian Welch - at the Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville, TN. On September 24th - Tift returns to the Trans-Pecos Festival of Music + Love in Marfa, TX

In other Tift Merritt news, on September 25th, Capitol Records will release Cass County, Don Henley‘s first solo album in 15 years. The album features a cover of Tift’s 2004 tune “Bramble Rose” (w/guest vocalists Mick Jagger & Miranda Lambert) as the lead off track. Don Henley’s first ever taping of Austin City Limits will premiere on October 24. Ashley Monroe and Jamey Johnson join him on Merritt’s “Bramble Rose”.

Rosanne Cash w/ Steve Earle – I’ll Change For You

I’ll change for you
I’ll change for you
I’ll change for you
I’ll turn night into day

A personal favorite from Rosanne’s acclaimed Rules of Travel cd… the unconventional conversational vocal between Rosanne and Steve Earle makes for one of the best modern duets committed to wax. ┬áThe song hits you with both an intimacy and an urgency as the two wrap their unmistakable vocals around Rosanne’s lyrics.

‘Cause everything reminds me of you
baby’s feet, an old man’s smile
A silent scream, a lover’s cry
Till I can’t do nothing
But change for you…

Here’s a live performance of the tune from an Austin City Limits performance.
