Freddy Fresh w/Fatboy Slim – Badder Badder Schwing

(click song title above to listen)

“Badder Badder Schwing”, was released in 1999 by one of the most active and prolific American underground dance music artists of the past 20 years, Minneapolis’s own, Freddy Fresh. In addition to a growing stateside audience, Fresh was also one of the first contemporary non-Detroit techno/electro musicians to have a strong European following.

Freddy Fresh’s fusion of electro & breakbeat funk springboards nicely with the big-beat fad of the late 90′s as demonstrated on his album The Last True Family Man. “Badder Badder Schwing” was a Top 40 hit in the UK and is a Fatboy Slim collaboration. Freestylers and Grandmaster Flash also contribute on this album.

Freddy Fresh w/Fatboy Slim – Badder Badder Schwing

We know what you were probably doing on July 26th, surely it was celebrating the 10th anniversary of Austin Powers in Goldmember. No? Well if you had been you would have probably been asking yourself “did I just hear a sample of Helen Reddy’s 1968 hit One Way Ticket, written by Stephen Lawrence and Bruce Hart, in that tune on that soundtrack?”.

The answer would have been “yes you did” and you would be referring to a track called “Badder Badder Schwing” by one of the most active and prolific American underground dance music artists of the past 20 years, Minneapolis’s own, Freddy Fresh. In addition to a growing stateside audience, Fresh was also one of the first contemporary non-Detroit techno/electro musicians to have a strong European following.
