Tony Bennett – Marry Young

(click song title above to listen)

In 1962, as Tony Bennett approached the end of his thirties, he put together an album that set the (bari)tone for the rest his decade and one that would balance commerce and art in a most beautiful way. With I Left My Heart in San Francisco, Tony discovered his (soon-to-be-massive) signature song and debuted several Cy Coleman & Carolyn Leigh songs including, “Rules of the Road” and “The Best is Yet To Come”, the latter of which Bennett helped make a standard.

This week, we feature the third Coleman/Leigh tune from this hit album, the sweet & valiant “Marry Young”.

Never mind what they say, marry young.
While it’s spring and the song is trembling to be sung.
Let it slip off the tip of your tongue
I love you, you love me. People do, why don’t we
Marry young?

These songs are just a few Coleman/Leigh tunes that Tony debuted over his long career. Another includes a revisit of “Firefly” from his most recent gold-selling album, Cheek to Cheek with Lady Gaga. You can watch a live performance of that one HERE.
