Last week we featured Peggy Lee the singer but Lee was a also a successful songwriter. In addition to songs written for Disney’s Lady and the Tramp, Peggy wrote lyrics for such notable composers as Harold Arlen, Sonny Burke, Quincy Jones, Johnny Mandel, and Duke Ellington.
This week’s Top Tune was written by Peggy and her pal Cy Coleman for Tony Bennett‘s 1965 album, If I Ruled the World: Songs For The Jet Set (arranged by Don Costa). The album is a gem and features Bennett’s Top 40 hit, “If I Ruled The World” along with a masterful version of Bart Howard’s “Fly Me To The Moon”. It turns out Tony does rule the world!
