Jenny O. – Hey Neighbor

If you’re lucky, right around the corner you might find the kind of neighbor like the one in this week’s Top Tune by singer/songwriter Jenny O. from her excellent debut lp, Automechanic.

Do you want to come over
put your feet on my table
can I offer you a glass of wine?

Yes, please. Yes you can. When Jenny isn’t found touring with the likes of Father John Misty, Sixto Rodriguez, Chuck Ragan, Ben Harper, or Night Beds, you might recognize her sweet sound coming from your television screen on shows like True Blood, Last Call with Carson Daly, and The Good Wife. Perhaps it was her unmistakable voice on songs by Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Leon Russell, and Roy Harper. You might have also noticed her on lovely recordings in tribute to Buddy Holly & Harry Nilsson. Wherever you see or get to hear her, you will surely be glad you did.

Nashville peeps, you can catch Jenny O. on 3/8 with Rathborne – The High Watt (One Cannery Row).

Tim Easton – Gallatin Pike Blues

This week’s Top Tune is named after the street that connects Tim Easton‘s East Nashville neighborhood with among other places; Bolton’s Spicy Chicken & Fish, The Ryman Auditorium and it’s back alley side-kick, Robert’s Western World. The latter hall is where Tim assembled the modern-vintage musicians that burn up his latest critically acclaimed album, Not Cool. Here is a little sample what they’re sayin’:

Hot, sweaty, sexy, righteous, cool - PopMatters

All in all, Not Cool must be considered among the most prominent albums released in 2013. Very Cool. - No Depression

Tim Easton finds his inner Buddy Holly and rocks. Here comes the sun… - Nashville Scene

Check out Tim Easton’s full list of upcoming East Coast and European tour dates HERE.

10/16 – Orlieb’s Lounge – Philly, PA
10/17 – Middle East – Cambridge, MA
10/18 – CMJ Showcase – Rockwood Music Hall – 6p, NYC
