This week’s Top Tune comes from the wonderful Sam Phillips EP, Cold Dark Night which was the second of five EP’s of her Long Play project, available exclusively to subscribers through samphillips.com on November 24th 2009. This collection of holiday songs featured two brand new original songs, “Cold Dark Night” and “It Doesn’t Feel Like Christmas”, plus Sam’s unique takes on “Silent Night” (featuring the vocals of Joe Henry), “Away in a Manger”, “O Holy Night” and a re-recording of “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear”, which Sam originally recorded in 1992 as the end title for the anti-war film, Midnight Clear.
The first person to correctly identify the parties on Santa’s lap in this pic will get a gift. Actually, if you listened to this great version of Away in a Manger you already received a little gift but we’ll come up with another one for you in the spirit of the season. May yours be bright!
