Skating Polly – Hail Mary

(click song title above to listen)

This week’s top tune was the first song the band along with Louise Post & Nina Gordon of Veruca Salt wrote for their brilliant new ep New Trick. NPR calls their horror-chic video ‘vaguely haunted, quite uncanny and good, creepy fun’. The band says the tune is “about being addicted to poisonous people. We wanted the one of the video to be somewhat serious, but not self-serious”.

It’s been said, and we whole-heartedly agree, that what the world needs now is another great rock and roll band.
Step sisters Kelli, Peyton, and brother Kurtis, are composers and they are performers, this is true. But perhaps most importantly, they are cultural reflections unto not only themselves, but to society. The members of the band have been pursuing their private destinies within the confines of the pop music jungle. As is so rarely the case, the whole of Skating Polly is much greater than the sum of its parts and the newly formed amalgam threatens to undermine the foundations of the rock power elite. Godspeed young Polly, godspeed.

Fresh off a triumphant UK tour supporting Kate Nash, the Polly return to the States supporting punk legends X’s 40th Anniversary Tour starting Sept 6th in Las Vegas including a slot at Chicago’s Riot Fest 2017 on Sept 15th!

Skating Polly – Louder In Outer Space

(click song title above to listen)

Can you hear that harmony?
I can hear it in my sleep
I can hear it even louder in outer space

New Trick is a polished wonder of a work- 4 STARS - ABC News.

Last July with producer Brad Wood (Liz Phair, Smashing Pumpkins) at the helm, Skating Polly entered the studio to record three songs they wrote in collaboration with Veruca Salt‘s Louise Post and Nina Gordon. The set is called New Trick and working with the co-front women of Veruca Salt was a dream come true for Kelli and Peyton. The Tacoma-based stepsisters make visceral punk inspired by the likes of X and Babes in Toyland and draw on influences like the Pixies, The Breeders, Belly and Veruca Salt themselves.

After hitting it off at a dinner one night at the Beachwood Cafe in Hollywood with Nina and Louise, the foursome decided to go in and write and record a few tunes together. Says Post “They know their shit. Both are multi-instrumentalists, skilled musicians, and discerning songwriters. They’re students and prolific artists, ever-open and ready to work, whether it’s on their latest song or painting, or designing and making art for the new basement bedroom they share”.

Check out the video for this week’s top tune which now includes the recent addition of Mayo’s brother Kurtis on drums. New Trick is available now on CD/DIGITAL/ETCHED VINYL via El Camino Media.

Skating Polly’s New Trick

Skating Polly 3 motel 1024x682 Skating Pollys New TrickSkating Polly‘s New Trick EP featuring Nina Gordon and Louise Post of Veruca Salt drops today via El Camino Media! Produced by legendary producer Brad Wood (Liz Phair, Sunny Day Real Estate, Smashing Pumpkins) New Trick finds Kelli Mayo (17) and Peyton Bighorse (21) joined full-time by brother Kurtis Mayo (20) on drums.

New Trick features three songs they co-wrote and recorded with Veruca Salt’s co-front women. Veruca Salt’s influence is readily apparent: Opener “Louder in Outer Space” boasts addictive hooks cut from the same cloth as “Seether”-era pop, and the dark, brooding “Hail Mary” showcases their knack for writing harmonies. But the raw lyrics and heartfelt ethos are all Skating Polly’s own.” – Seattle Weekly

Skating Polly – Can’t Tell Me Nothing

(click song title above to listen)

The mighty Skating Polly have more creativity and energy than one could even shake a stick at. Yes, we try to shake sticks sometimes but can’t. Since the first moment we saw these two step-sisters Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse hit the stage at the Bootleg in L.A. back in 2013, they have never failed to surprise and inspire.

This week’s tune is no exception, an unforgettable cover they dropped quietly on their SoundCloud page in 2014 of Kanye West‘s “Can’t Tell Me Nothing”. It was the first single from Graduation, West’s third album which ran away with 2007 and is coming up on a tenth anniversary mark this coming May.

On January 20 and 21 you can catch Mayo’s acting debut in the world premiere of the pilot When the Street Lights Go On at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival! Directed by multi-award winner Brett Morgen (The Kid Stays in the Picture, Nimrod Nation, Crossfire Hurricane, Cobain: Montage of Heck), Kelli will play Berlice Beaman, a 15-year-old bohemian bookworm in a coming-of-age thriller about a sleepy, suburban Illinois town that is rocked by the brutal murder of a high school girl and her teacher in the summer of 1983.

When the Street Lights Go On. Directed by Brett Morgen, written by Eddie O’Keefe & Chris Hutton, and starring Max Burkholder, Odessa Young, Adam Long, Ben Winchell, Nicola Peltz, Drew Roy, Cory Hardict, Luke Kirby, Graham Beckel and Kelli Mayo.
