Skating Polly – Benny Once Told Me

(click on song title above to listen)

This week we bring you a brand new Skating Polly tune that we adore. You can watch a sweet live performance of the song the band recently did for the launch of Kate Nash‘s Girl Gang TV right HERE . Girl Gang is a community aligned with the resurgence of the pro-feminine riot grrrl scene. It originally began as a series of private gatherings in Kate’s garage and now has expanded to an international network of like-minded people who want to make a difference. A place for rad humans to gather ad learn new skills, inspire others, express themselves, and share ideas.

Check out a new interview with Kelli and Peyton of Skating Polly about the music and art that inspires them in The Radical magazine’s new all female issue with Kate Nash on the cover. Features fellow-badasses; Tove Lo, Laua Marling, Kate Tempest, Sleater-Kinney, HOLYCHILD, and more.

On January 1, 2014, recreational marijuana sales began in Colorado. With all eyes on ground zero of the green rush, The Denver Post became the first major media outlet to embrace it and appointed the world’s first marijuana editor. Legalization is not just an experiment for society, but a risk for the dying industry of newspapers to hedge its bets on the booming business of marijuana. Ricardo Baca sets out to report on history in the making with a team of straight-laced staff writers and fish out of water freelancers in tow for The Cannabist as it unfolds. Policy news, strain reviews, parenting advice and edible recipes are the new norm in the unprecedented world of pot journalism.

Jenny O. – Won’t Let You Leave

Jenny O. is currently putting the finishing touches on her forthcoming debut LP – titled Automechanic – which she cut in LA with wunderkind producer Jonathan Wilson (Father John Misty, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Dawes). While we can’t wait to unleash this brand new batch of songs on everyone, our hearts still go to Jenny’s debut EP, Home (Manimal Vinyl), which first caught our attention with it’s beautiful simplicity. Home‘s lead-off single “Well OK Honey” became a bonafide indie hit, getting a good amount of love from radio programmers here and overseas (spearheaded by LA’s KCRW), as well as a bunch of great TV and ad syncs.

Today we are pleased to present Home‘s “Won’t Let You Leave” – a favorite that is always in rotation around the Notable offices. Discerning listeners may recognize the tune when it was featured on the FX Network’s original comedy “Wilfred” recently…

Jenny will be performing the new songs during her gigs at the upcoming SXSW festival in Austin, TX next week. If you’ll be in town, come check her out at one of the five shows she has booked (below). For those of you that won’t be in TX, Jenny O. will be coming to a town (or country) near you soon!

P.S. We love this live video of Jenny performing “Won’t Let You Leave” on the back patio of LA’s Bootleg Theatre.
