Tift on her album title: “for my 40th birthday, I rented a cabin in California. It had such an amazing vista — the Pacific forever, cliffs, trees and stars — it didn’t seem real. I thought how lucky I was, and about invisible ties that link us to one another and to the world. And sewing — it’s a delicate thing. You can pull too hard or get thread twisted or torn. You’ve got to be careful – and still go blindly and joyfully forward.” The album features singles “Dusty Old Man”, “Love Soldiers On”, and “Heartache Is an Uphill Climb”. Merritt delivers a poignant set and is currently on tour through May 2017! Order HERE.

Tift Merritt – Heartache Is an Uphill Climb

NPR says of this week’s top tune; “once it gathers steam, the song turns into a strong-willed, AM soul-pop tune that portrays heartache not as a season to be passively endured so much as one to be slowly, strenuously overcome”.

Ya! The tune they’re talking about is a new one by Tift Merritt and to our ears, an instant classic. One of many poignant, hopeful, honest ditties on her new album dropping this Friday January 27th entitled Stitch of the World (Yep Roc Records).

Elle describes the song as “material that’s straight out of the Dolly Parton or Tammy Wynette songbook, but Merritt makes it her own.” Could not agree more!

The official Stitch of the World Tour begins Saturday in Amsterdam followed by a heavy dose of UK dates and a full North American Tour through May 16th. Not to be missed! Click HERE for info and tickets.

Don Henley recalls of the lead-off track to his #1 2015 Country Album, Cass County, “I’d wanted to record that song ever since I heard it”.

The song is “Bramble Rose” and was also the title track of Tift Merritt‘s 2002 debut album for Lost Highway Records. Allmusic’s Mark Deming rated it 4.5 out of 5 stars saying “Bramble Rose leaves no doubt that Merritt is already a talent of the first order”.

Stan Lynch of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers fame produced Henley’s version of the tune and co-wrote many of the album’s original songs. “Bramble Rose” features stellar guest performances by none other than Miranda Lambert and Mick Jagger! More luminaries on the set include Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, Lucinda Williams, Trisha Yearwood, Vince Gill, and Lee Ann Womack. Happy One Year Anniversary this week to the remarkable Cass County!
