It’s an astounding collection, we highly recommend picking it up!

Tift Merritt – Cadillac

This week’s Top Tune is a vintage, unreleased Tift Merritt track that happens to be one of our faves.

“It was part of our very first set of band songs and I played telecaster on it in the clubs.” remembers Tift. “I can remember writing it in the farmhouse where I lived out in the country with my dog. I had a piano painted red. I did not have a Cadillac, but I can remember the feeling of wanting to be someone’s race car. I like that idea”.

There’s one thing for sure, Tift Merritt is a cruiser. When she’s not on tour in support of her 5th critically acclaimed and most recent studio album, Traveling Alone (and its’ deluxe box set companion, Traveling Alone Deluxe Edition) you might catch her as a featured artist with classical pianist Simone Dinnerstein performing compositions from their intriguing lp, Night or often sharing a stage with Andrew Bird to boot.

Tift will be heading out on her first tour of Australia in April supporting Jason Isbell and will appear tonight at City Winery NYC w/Steve Earle. You can also catch her at Lincoln Center with Mary Chapin Carpenter & The New York Philharmonic on 2/28 & 3/1. For more tour dates and info click HERE.

Tift Merritt – Feel of the World

This week’s Top Tune is a sweet & soulful track from Tift Merritt‘s 2010 album, See You On The Moon on Fantasy Records. We love this song. That’s Jim James from My Morning Jacket on harmony vocals. Speaking of harmony, Tift has teamed up with the great Andrew Bird on many occasions during her incredibly busy and fruitful year. Always a thing of beauty, you can hear them here or live and in person coming up on Andrew’s Gezelligheid Winter 2013 tour (dates below) as well as this coming Friday in-store at Rough Trade, Brooklyn NY.

Tucker Martine (The Decemberists, R.E.M., Neko Case, Spoon) produced ‘Moon’ as well as this past year’s critically acclaimed Merritt gem, Traveling Alone. The deluxe edition on Yep Roc Records could make the perfect gift this Holiday Season, we’re just saying. Hope to see you at one of these shows, you won’t regret it!
