“Armed with just a homemade bassitar and a pair of backwards facing drum sticks, Skating Polly’s music is as barbed and cutting as the braces on their teeth. Raised on riot grrrl and root beer in the red-state Bible Belt, Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse are far from your typical middle American teenagers.” – Bryn Lovitt – Noisey/Vice.
This week’s top tune is the ripping new single from Skating Polly from their forthcoming album, Nothing More Than A Body. It was produced by former Flaming Lips member, Kliph Scurlock and mixed by Kerry Brown, Brian Liesegang & Kevin Dippold, at the SIX01 artist collective (Greg Dulli, Smashing Pumpkins, Mark Lanegan). The track was written as an existential response to meeting long-time idol Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel and features Peyton on lead vocals. You can read more of that story and check out the video HERE.
The band is currently wrapping up a victorious (their first) tour of the UK in support of Babes In Toyland. Reactions to the shows in Bristol, London & Southampton has been nuts!! You can still catch them tonight at Gorilla in Manchester and tomorrow night at Oran Mor, Glasgow.
