Rosanne Cash, Elvis Costello, Kris Kristofferson – April 5th

You want love
But it’s never deep enough
You want life
But it’s never long enough
You want peace
Like it’s something you can buy
You want time
But you’re content to watch it fly

“A few years ago, Kris Kristofferson, Rosanne Cash, and I formed our supergroup, C.C.K. – which sounds like a former Soviet republic – or K.C.C., which might be a knock-off of a fast food chain. We wrote and recorded a couple songs for a still unfinished album”, Costello told Rolling Stone. “One of them, ‘April 5th’, was written and produced by Rose’s husband, John Leventhal and is as good as any song on which my name is signed.”

Whatever the inspiration to combine these absurdly talented voices & souls, it was a grand one! Thankfully, this week’s Top Tune got it’s first commercial release last week on an amazing two-disc, 38-song companion album to Elvis Costello‘s new autobiography, Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink. The collection also features a second previously unreleased track, “I Can’t Turn It Off”, an early recording that Elvis recorded in 1975 two years before his debut, My Aim Is True.

You can catch Costello in conversation with Rosanne Cash next Tuesday November 10th 7:30PM at the Peter Jay Sharp Building/BAM Howard Gilman Opera House in Brooklyn. Get tickets and more info HERE.
