Tony Bennett - Firefly

In the late 1950′s, Cy Coleman and his collaborator, Carolyn Leigh, were making a pitch to write the score for the musical “Gypsy” and composed the song “Firefly” for one of the characters… and although they didn’t wind up writing the musical (Julie Styne and Stephen Sondheim eventually penned the tunes), “Firefly” caught the attention of Tony Bennett (who had not yet hit big with Cy’s “Best Is Yet To Come”). A groovy uptempo tune that is perfect for that Scorcese-esque mob flick that you’re supervising… and it’s also playful enough to be performed with Kermit and the Muppets (watch video).

“Firefly” was originally released on the legendary 1958 release “Tony Bennett & Count Basie: In Person” – a jazz/pop crossover masterpiece.
