This week’s Top Tune is without a doubt one of our favorite remixes of the year – Mercury takes on Marvin Gaye’s classic recording of “Sunny” and brightens up our day.
Mercury is comprised of the Swiss duo: Mel & Simon. Their remixes for Tom Trago and Homework caught the attention of the legendary Gomma Records who signed the group in 2010. The Gomma label is a music (and graphic) collective that is based in Munich and is led by Jonas Imbery (aka Telonius) and Mathias Modica (aka Munk). The Gomma collective consists of musicians, djs, bands, and graphic designers from all over the world.
“Sunny” was written and originally recorded by Bobby Hebb and has been covered by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Toots & The Maytals, Ella Fitzgerald, The Four Seasons, James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Nick Cave, Oscar Peterson, and Dusty Springfield just to name a few. BMI rates “Sunny” number 25 in its “Top 100 songs of the 20th Century.”
