The Rhythm Of Life is a powerful beat
Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet
One of our favorite tunes around the Notable offices, “The Rhythm of Life,” is classic Cy Coleman Broadway. An undeniably happy beat drives this tune that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
Written by Cy and Dorothy Fields for the 1966 hit Broadway musical Sweet Charity, a play that reinvented Broadway, and remains one of musical theatre’s most revered classics.
We chose the original Broadway cast version for today’s Top Tune – which became a centerpiece of this iconic play. In 1969 it was recorded by Sammy Davis Jr. for Charity’s film adaptation; and a couple of years later soulful versions by the likes of Motown royalty Diana Ross & the Supremes and The Temptations would hit the airwaves, exposing this classic to a whole new audience.
Enjoy this clip of Sammy Davis Jr. performing the tune from the Charity film adaptation, with choreography from the legendary Bob Fosse. One of the best videos you’ll see on the internet today? We think so. Enjoy “The Rhythm of Life!”
