I have a feeling that beneath the little halo on your noble head,
There lies a thought or two the devil might be interested to know.
You’re like the finish of a novel that I’ll finally have to take to bed,
You fas-ci-nate me so.
So sings Peggy Lee on this weeks Top Tune, from her hit 1960 lp, Pretty Eyes.
Arranged and conducted by Billy May, the song was composed by Cy Coleman with the wonderfully clever and hedonistic sophistication of one of the greatest wordsmiths of all time, Carolyn Leigh. The tune was first cut by Cy himself with his trio on 1958′s Cool Coleman, soon followed by a hit Blossom Dearie version in 1959.
