Top Tune of the Week

Week of September 18, 2013

Tift Merritt - Feeling of Beauty

Driving without destination,
Leaving our clothes there on the bank and
Swimming in a river with no name.

This week’s top tune is one of our favorite songs of the past year and comes from the critically acclaimed Tift Merritt lp, Traveling Alone. One year after it’s initial release, the set gets a well-deserved expanded deluxe edition treatment from the fine folks at Yep Roc Records.

The package is available now and comes with a bonus album called, Traveling Companion, which features 10 unreleased acoustic tracks including Merritt Originals and two covers from Joni Mitchell and Tom Waits. It was recorded earlier this year in Brooklyn’s Mason Jar Music studio with guitarist Eric Heywood (The Jayhawks, Son Volt, Alejandro Escovedo). Tift commissioned images from artist Diana Sudyka in a hardbound lyric book which is also included.

Available in both CD and LP formats, the premiere LP version includes three 180-gram LPs that span both Traveling Alone and Traveling Companion, the hardbound lyric book and three custom postcards. Truly stunning!

You can catch Tift again on tour coming up October 4th at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival before a supporting run with Over The Rhine. Click here for more details.
