Springtime came early at Notable as this week’s Top Tune features our newest member of the family, the supremely gifted singer, songwriter & musician Tift Merritt. Tift’s new album Traveling Alone (Yep Roc Records) was recorded in Brooklyn with producer Tucker Martine (The Decemberists, My Morning Jacket, Spoon) and features a guest performance by Andrew Bird as well as performances by Marc Ribot, Rob Burger (Lucinda Williams, Iron & Wine, Rufus Wainwright), John Convertino (Calexico), Eric Heywood (The Jayhawks, Son Volt, Alejandro Escovedo) and Merritt’s longtime collaborator Jay Brown.
“Spring” is just the tip of the iceberg on an album garnering much well-deserved praise everywhere. Catch Tift along with Damien Jurado, Lucy Rose, Joshua James, and Curtis Peoples live on Jan 17th at The Troubadour in Los Angeles as part of “Write The Night” co-presented in association with Last Call With Carson Daly.
Click here to see one of our favorite tv performances of all time, Tift backing up Andrew Bird on Townes’ “If I Needed You” w/Alan Hampton on Letterman one night after Hurricane Sandy hit the city. Beautiful!
