It’s a hard road but it fits your shoes
Son of rhythm and brother of the blues.
The sound of darkness, the pull of the oak
Everything is broken and painted in smoke.
“50,000 Watts”, one of our faves from Rosanne Cash‘s highly acclaimed new album, The River & the Thread, is a a sweet gospel-inflected tune which features a great guest vocal by Cory Chisel. It’s a song about Memphis radio station WDIA, which advertised itself as “50,000 Watts of good will”.
Cash, who has charted 21 top 40 country singles, including 11 Number Ones, wrote all of the new album’s songs with her longtime collaborator and husband, John Leventhal. The River & the Thread entered at No. 11 on the Billboard Top 200 and at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart marking Rosanne’s highest Soundscan-era debut and highest overall rank of her groundbreaking career. The album, produced and arranged by Leventhal, is a kaleidoscopic examination of the geographic, emotional, and historic landscape of the American South. It’s unique sounds draw from country, blues, gospel and rock, reflecting a soulful mix of music that traces its history to the region.
“It is inconceivable that there will be a more beautiful album that this in 2014″ – Elton John. We couldn’t agree more!
