It’s time to put the spotlight back on the killer lead off track from Rosanne Cash‘s multi-Grammy nominated album, The River & the Thread.
“When we were forming the idea for this record” says Cash, “it felt like it was going to be the third part of a trilogy – with Black Cadillac (2006) mapping out a territory of mourning and loss and then The List (2009), celebrating my family’s musical legacy. I feel this record ties past and present together through all those people and places in the South I knew and thought I had left behind.”
All three albums in that trilogy are soulful & inspiring American classics, each now having been nominated for Grammy awards. “A Feather’s Not a Bird” is up for two of its’ own this year, including Best American Roots Song and Best American Roots Performance while The River & the Thread is up for Best Americana Album. Cash wrote the 11 original songs for this album with her longtime collaborator and husband, John Leventhal who also served as producer, arranger, and guitarist. Tune in to the 57th Annual Grammy Awards this Sunday Feb 8th 8/7c on CBS.
