Rosanne Cash - The Good Intent

(click song title above to listen)

The name of the ship that carried the first Cash ancestor to the new world in the mid-1600s was named The Good Intent. It’s also the name of this week’s stunning Top Tune written by Rosanne Cash and her husband, John Leventhal from her 2006 album, Black Cadillac.

It’s incredible to think of the impact that journey would eventually have on American Roots Music. In honor of that journey and in celebration of the one we get to travel along with Rosanne on through her songs and artistry, we offer up a HUGE congratulations to her on her upcoming induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame on October 11th, 2015!

Induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame is one of the nation’s highest songwriting achievements. Since 1970, the hall has enshrined some of the greatest writers ever to put words to music including Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Dolly Parton, Don & Phil Everly, and Roy Orbison just to name a few. This will only be the latest stop for Rosanne Cash in a stellar year that saw her sweep 3 Grammy wins this past February for her album, The River & the Thread and most recently, three sold-out performances as September’s Artist-In-Residence for the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum. Rosanne is an outspoken advocate for artists rights and has testified on behalf of songwriters and musicians before Congress and elsewhere for fair treatment in the digital age. She has had 11 #1 singles in her career, navigating her own path between country and rock, roots and pop. In 1996, she published a collection of short stories called Bodies of Water and in 2000 a children’s book: Penelope Jane: A Fairy’s Tale. Her essays and fiction have appeared in various collections and publications including the New York Times, Rolling Stone, Time Magazine, The Oxford American, and New York Magazine. In 2010, Viking released Rosanne’s much anticipated memoir, Composed, which made the NY Times Bestseller list the fist week of release.

Congratulations Rosanne on your well-deserved induction to the hall!

Roseanne Cash is one of the greatest country music stars of all time. That is not surprising considering the legacy of talent and musical integrity she derived from. She is also married to one of the most amazing musicians ever to bless us with his unique style. I love them both, as I loved Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. The whole family, from Roseanne to John Carter Cash, has been a tremendous inspiration to me. I enjoyed reading the article about the first Cash ancestor coming to this country in the 1600′s. I am so glad they did. Congratulations, Roseanne, for the honor you have received with your induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. I do not know you, but I truly wish I did.
