It was one year ago this week when HBO released the first trailer to the highly anticipated season two of True Detective. This week’s tune (with lyrics by Rosanne Cash, music by T Bone Burnett and Lera Lynn) racked up millions of views as it gave fans the first glimpse of the second season’s characters and a plot that revolved around a murder, three Southern California-based law-enforcement officers, and a career criminal (played by Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch, and Vince Vaughn).
From the series’ inception, music director T Bone Burnett helped elevate the show’s intense drama with an incredible mix of haunting, original roots music and powerful voices. Three gorgeous originals in all (The Only Thing Worth Fighting For, My Least Favorite Life, and It Only Takes One Shot) were written by the trio of Cash, Burnett, and Lynn and all can be heard throughout season two as well as on the official soundtrack album. The stirring set stretches over both seasons, including cuts by Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, John Paul White, The Handsome Family, and Bob Dylan. Get yours HERE.
